Free public toolDOT lookup: search by USDOT number
Find a company’s public census record using its USDOT identifier.
What does a USDOT lookup show?
The result shows selected public census fields: company name, reported city and state, power units, drivers and associated MC numbers. FMCSA describes the USDOT number as a unique identifier for collecting and monitoring company safety information.

What should I check next?
Consult official authority and insurance sources for the relevant filings, review the publication dates and follow your team’s verification process for the proposed shipment. The free result is a census lookup, not a live authority or insurance certification.

Compare the record with the carrier packet
| Field | How to use it |
|---|
| Legal name and DBA | Compare the legal entity and trading name with the contract and supplied documents. A similar name is not the same identifier. |
| Reported address and phone | Use them as comparison points. A census contact is source-reported and may be outdated; it is not an independent identity check. |
| Power units and drivers | Understand the reported business scale. These counts are not a count of trucks available for your shipment. |
| MCS-150 date | Review the reported form date alongside the dataset publication date. They describe different updates. |
Why is my USDOT number missing?
Check for a typing error, confirm that you entered USDOT rather than MC, and compare with the official Company Snapshot. CarrierTrail searches its most recent copy of official FMCSA census data; a newly published or changed record may not yet be included. A missing match is an unresolved lookup, not a carrier risk finding.
Can I monitor this carrier?
A paid workspace lets you save the USDOT record, review shared contacts and filing observations, and follow later source changes. Repeatedly adding the same USDOT record does not create a second active carrier.
